Victor Sosa of Oxnard passed away peacefully at his home on November 9th, surrounded by family after a brief illness, at the age of 82. He was born in New York City on June 17, 1933. His maternal grandmother, Victoria, who he loved dearly, raised him. He graduated from Central High of Needle Trade in Manhattan in 1951, majoring in tailoring. On December 6, 1953, he married his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Aida Victoria Ortiz. He was soon drafted into the U. S. Army in 1954 where he honorably served his country including a tour in Korea. Hoping to build a better life, he and his wife packed up the household and migrated west to Ventura, California in 1956. On August 8 of that year they had their first child Steven Wayne. Not long thereafter, the family was expanded by one when Stacy Diann was born in 1961. This completed their family. He initially worked for Farmers Insurance Group. However, as he planned for the future, he desired to control his destiny. This led him to form a partnership with Guy Barone, establishing the Barone & Sosa Insurance Agency. Victor also figured prominently in the establishment of what has become the Evangelistic Center Church in Oxnard. He worked tirelessly to ensure its continued success and is considered a founding father of the church. In addition to providing leadership and support in many capacities throughout the years, including financial support, he loved to play the piano and organ for the church. His love for music compelled him to play for the church for the last 46 years as a self-taught musician. Concurrently, he continued his commercial success on the business front and started his own insurance agency with his immediate family, forming Sosa & Sosa Insurance Agency, which he oversaw until his recent sickness. He loved music in all its many forms, as it just seemed to spring from within him. His ubiquitous whistling could be heard at any time of day and many were lucky enough to be serenaded by him. His favorite music forms were Christian hymns and old Broadway favorites. We will miss that gap-toothed smile but rejoice in knowing he lived a full and fulfilling life with no regrets. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched throughout his life. Victor is survived by his wife, Aida; children, Steven Sosa and his wife Ginger, Stacy Flores and her husband Kevin, grandchildren Jacob Sosa (Holly), Jared Flores (Bianca), Aaron Flores (Michelle), Nicholas Sosa, Camerine Collingsworth (Addison); siblings Sam Sosa, Priscilla Cooper, Aida de Jesus and five great grandchildren. For those wishing to memorialize Victor in a lasting fashion, donations can be made in his name to the Evangelistic Center (750 W Wooley Rd, Oxnard, 93030) to help purchase new carpet for the sanctuary in lieu of flowers.
